2020 Schedule

September Dates TBD

Welcome to your PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)

We are excited to help you achieve your dreams!

Here's what should you expect before, during, and after your IDC.

Contact Bruce Weitzenhoffer, our PADI Course Director at 925-586-2747, or via , and he will walk you through the entire IDC and Instructor Exam (IE) process, as well as answer any questions you may have.

You will pay a non-refundable $500 +tax deposit to secure your spot in the IDC.

Expect to pay approximately $4000 which includes your IDC, IDC Crewpak, Emergency First Response (EFR) Instructor Course, EFR Instructor Manual, the IE, application fees, and applicable taxes.  Some of these fees will be paid directly to PADI, and some will be paid here at the shop, allowing you a little flexibility in payment scheduling.  The actual course fee of $1750 + tax is due to be paid in full by your first day of class.

Complete the PADI IDC eLearning AND Dive Theory online by clicking here before the IDC begins. You should also purchase your IDC crewpak and the EFR Instructor Crewpak prior to starting your eLearning, as these crewpaks contain some materials you'll need for your online sessions. We are happy to order these for you.

Complete the EFR Instructor Knowledge Reviews before the IDC begins.

Complete your Learning Agreement and all applicable forms prior to the first day of the IDC.

If you have any questions about what you are filling out, leave it blank and we will complete in during the orientation on our first day.

Gather required materials (such as certification cards, training materials, logged dives) and bring everything with you on the first day.

Plan to be in class, at the pool, and/or at the ocean every day as scheduled for the full day, unless otherwise noted. The ending times listed on the schedule are rough estimates.  Sometimes we may run into dinnertime, and maybe even beyond!

You will learn to conduct Knowledge, Confined Water, and Open Water Presentations from Discover Scuba Diving, Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and Specialties.

You will also learn about a variety of subjects ranging from risk management to marketing your Instructor skills.

Your Rescue skills will be refreshed with the Rescue Diver Workshop.

Your 24 skill circuit will be evaluated and remediated as necessary. We expect you to use demonstration quality when you perform all skills from this point on.

You will learn how to conduct portions of the Underwater Navigation, Search and Recovery, and Peak Performance Buoyancy Adventure Dives.

As you will see on the schedule, we will be completing the Dive Theory tests early in the course so that we can see where your strong points and weak points may be. You will have daily theory questions as homework to reinforce your theory knoledge.   You will complete the Dive Theory tests on the last day of the IDC so the information will be fresh in your mind when you attend the IE.

We will not send you to the IE until you are completely prepared!

You will attend the two-day IE here on Maui or wherever you choose. This exam is conducted by a PADI Instructor Examiner from PADI Headquarters in California. The exams include written tests, giving a knowledge presentation, teaching one confined water skill and two open water skills. Several skills from the skill circuit will be assigned in the pool. You will perform a Rescue assessment.

You will have mastered all of these components of the IE during the IDC and yes, you might even have fun during the process!

Once your paperwork has been processed by PADI Headquarters and you have purchased professional insurance, you will receive an email authorizing you to go forth and teach people to scuba dive!

Maui Dreams has many connections within the diving industry here on Maui, and we would be delighted to discuss job placement referrals/options with you!
